Songs of Hope
Songs of Hope, part of Daniel Pearl World Music DaysSongs of Hope is a recital series which begins October, 2007 in New York City, and ends February, 2008, in Seattle. Soprano Janeanne Houston will be joined by organist/pianist Paul Richard Olson and oboist Shannon Spicciati in four exciting venues.
Janeanne will be singing three of Lori’s songs from her first song cycle: The Metropolitan Tower, A Winter Night and Old Tunes. Also featured is the world premiere of the song cycle Cummings’ Suite by North Carolina composer Dan Locklair. This newly comissioned work includes the beloved text I thank you God for most this amazing day. Also on the program are works by Carol Sams (NY premiere, and a world premiere for soprano, piano, and oboe), the NY premiere of Hilary Tann’s cycle Songs of the Cotton Grass for soprano and oboe, and songs from Simon Sargon and Bern Herbolsheimer. A new work titled Fragments, Songs of Hope, by Northwest composer Gregory Youtz will be the centerpiece of the final concert at Pacific Lutheran University.
The first concert will be on October 12, 2007, at 8:00 P.M. at Grace Church, in Brooklyn Heights , NY.
