Manning, Jane

Jane Manning’s Vocal Repertoire for the Twenty-First Century, Volume 2, published by Oxford University Press, focuses on works written from 2000 onwards. There is a chapter devoted to my song cycle Men with Small Heads, which sets the poetry of Thomas Lux.

“IT is an unalloyed pleasure to come across the music of Lori Laitman, an exceptionally prolific songwriter who shows total mastery of the voice–piano idiom. Vocal fluency and rhythmic energy are her hallmarks and she sets (and chooses) texts admirably. The notes seem to leap out spontaneously from an ever-fertile wellspring of imagination and drive. Her ear is acute to the subtlest vocal nuances, and she establishes character with consummate ease, giving the singer every chance to display versatility, and to relish occasional unusual expressive effects, which always come off perfectly.”
