The Secret Exit is a song cycle for soprano and Bb clarinet, commissioned by The University of Alabama at Birmingham for soprano Kristine Hurst- Wajszczuk and clarinetist Denise Gainey. The cycle sets 3 poems by Nobel Laureate Nelly Sachs. Kristine and Denise premiered the work in January 2018 and Naxos released the recording in 2020.
In December 2025 I created two new arrangements — one for soprano with alto saxophone (with guidance from Andrew Harrison) and one for soprano with English horn (with guidance from Jane Marvine). The new editions are now available for PDF download.
